
Most recently, Marc E. Jaffe was the Senior Vice President of Rodale Books and Managing Director of Licensing for Rodale Inc., the world’s leading publisher of information on healthy, active lifestyles. Jaffe oversaw several divisions at Rodale, including its domestic and international trade book businesses as well as its licensing business. He is responsible for publishing the phenomenally successful The South Beach Diet books (over 9.5 million copies in print) and the #1 The New York Times bestseller, Pete Rose’s My Prison Without Bars. Jaffe was a member of Rodale’s nine person executive management committee. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Men’s Health Italy, Rodale’s most successful international magazine joint venture with Mondadori.
Upon joining Rodale in January 2001, Jaffe played a key role in starting up its licensing business based on the magazine brands Prevention, Men’s Health et al., launching an international trade book publishing effort and dramatically growing the domestic trade book business sevenfold. He has been engaged in a range of transactions including author acquisitions, joint ventures with major talent, Rodale's first film deal, and product licenses such as Prevention pedometers and Runner’s World performance apparel.
Jaffe has more than 22 years of general management experience in print and non-print media, electronic rights, licensing and law. He has been responsible for publishing products with powerful brands, ranging from Star Trek to JK Lasser, and from The Silver Palate to Hugh Johnson. He has also licensed intellectual properties to more than 100 companies across nearly 40 media and technologies worldwide.
Prior to joining Rodale, Jaffe served as a managing director of Double Impact, a boutique global technology-consulting firm. He also served as the non-executive chairman of a publicly held NASDAQ company, Vizacom, an Internet architect and direct marketing software publishing company. Previously, Jaffe founded and was President of Electronic Licensing Organization, a licensing agency dedicated to bringing together information and entertainment with new media and interactive technologies. The company’s diverse client base ranged from IBM to Bantam Doubleday Dell. Jaffe served as an Executive Vice-President of Franklin Electronic Publishers, Inc., a world leader in e-book publishing, as well as President of the Software and Video Division of Simon & Schuster, a Viacom company.
Jaffe holds a J.D. (Juris Doctorate) degree from Columbia Law School and a BA from Columbia College.
